Humewood Golf Club
One of South Africa’s top-rated golf clubs,
Humewood is a true Links course which has hosted numerous PGA events,
including the South African Open.
The course is surrounded by coastal bush and, although it is close to
the centre of Port Elizabeth, one sees very little evidence of human
encroachment. Humewood is characterised by thick coastal bush, swales,
humps and hollows.

Humewood Golf Course
In 1929, Port Elizabeth Golf Club members asked course architect Colonel
SV Hotchkin to design a second championship course for the town. He
broke away from the traditional 9 holes out and 9 holes back and
instead, each 9 returns to the Clubhouse. Over the last 25 years, 4 of
the par 5's have been redesigned to par 4's and are now regarded amongst
the most challenging in South Africa. In the 1980's, Englishman Donald
Steel re-evaluated Humewood adding several bunkers. |
